MEET KIM

(she/her)

Who are you outside of Sky High?

I am a maker and spend most of my free time on my baking and crafting business. Check out my stuff HERE. I also crochet, sew, paint, and anything creative when I’m not at the studio taking classes or practicing pole.

When and how did your fitness journey begin?

I was barely active other than the occasional yoga class until I started at Sky High. About a year into training at Sky High is really when I decided to really start my fitness journey both in and out of the studio.

Why did you choose Sky High?

I started at Sky High because it looked like something fun to do and was close to home.

What were your biggest struggles before/while starting pole?

Self confidence was my biggest struggle, I was not happy with my appearance or abilities in the beginning.

Did you exercise before becoming a Sky High Student? If yes, what did you do?

I didn’t exercise much before coming to sky high. I would take an occasional yoga class but otherwise I was very out of shape.

What were your goals when you started? What are your goals now?

When I started I didn’t have many goals although I found I really wanted to improve as soon as I started. Now, many of the things I do outside of my time at Sky High supports building the strength and flexibility to continue to improve.

How often do you practice?

I’m at sky high at least 3 times per week and sometimes up to 6 times per week. I have a pole at home also but only use it 1-2 times per week.

What do you find the most difficult about pole?

The hardest part of pole for me is mentally understanding that some moves are not right for my body and will take much more effort for me to get. It can be frustrating to work hard on something and not be able to achieve it.

What are your favorite moves that you have learned so far? What do you like about it?

My personal pole style is much more slow and geared towards dance. I personally prefer to move around the base of the pole using body waves and spins. I’m currently working on taking my style and make the moves up the pole more fluid.

What does your family and friends think about you doing pole?

Everyone in my life is very supportive, they’ve all followed my journey from the beginning.

How has pole changed your life? (i.e. fitness, meeting new friends, learning something new and challenging, etc.)

I am a completely different person since starting pole. I’m more confident, stronger, and happier. Ive found a group of like-minded people who support each other. I am thankful every day for the instructors at Sky High. They have helped me on and off the pole in so many ways.

Fun fact about you #1?

I have a bunch of pets (3 dogs, 2 rabbits, 3 chickens, 2 gerbils, and a fish)

Fun fact about you #2?

I love to garden but I can’t actually keep any plants alive No matter how hard I try.

Where can people find you?
