I’m Amanda Laflin, aside from being a pole and aerial instructor, I’m also a full-time hairstylist and I love every creative minute I get of it. I have a little dance background from when I was a child. I did ballet, jazz, hip-hop, and tap. I was and am always inspired by dancing and art, so later on, in life, I knew I needed to get back into the dance world again. A couple of my friends and I took a class to see what it was all about. We found ourselves doing pole fitness! Seeing how I’m an adrenaline junky, I was instantly hooked and wanting more.
I started taking every class I could including silks, trapeze, lyra, hand balancing you name it – I was trying to get into it. I love spinning around the pole fast flying in the aerial apparatuses. Even though I’m terrified of heights, I don’t let it stop me from learning new tricks. I love the pole and aerial world I’ve found myself in, because I love dancing and I’m horrible at going to the gym, lifting weights, and working out. My ADD goes crazy when left alone in a gym, so this helps me stay fit and healthy while having a blast doing what I love.
How She Got Started:
I was introduced to pole through a bachelorette party for a friend. To be honest, I wasn’t originally excited about going, but once I got there and was able to do a few things no one else in the group could do, I was inspired to see what else I was capable of.
It’s given me more confidence even in everyday life has kept me stay fit, healthy, and happy. Dance has a way of pulling out your deepest emotions if you let it and it’s a magical feeling when you can just let go and let the music move you.
I love watching my students grow every week and get those moves they thought were so out of reach for them. They inspire me every class
I try to get people out of their heads and not over think moves, allow your body to move the way it wants! You can do the same move but have it look different it doesn’t make it wrong
IRL (In Real Life):
When she’s not at the studio, you’ll find Lauren balancing the tantalizing (and rare) opportunities to binge on Netflix (with her kitties on the couch) and craft all-the-things at once. She’s a fan of whipping out decorative bookmarks and accessories, and working on massive “not your grandma’s” cross stitch projects that only the universe knows if she’ll ever actually complete. She’s also a glutton for telling dumb jokes (when you come to the studio ask her why the ghost joined AA), reading and watching documentaries, and sitting on the beach when New England weather allows for it.
I have the worst stage fright that almost stops me from doing what I love, but l get such an amazing adrenaline rush after coming off any stage that it keeps me craving more no matter how scared I am. Always fight for what you love no matter your fears
